Chief Pilot/Head of Operations Report

Back to the Future Two

Hello fellow aviators,

I would like to thank all members, board members and aero club staff for the friendly support and
assistance they have given me as I have served in the role of Chief Pilot/Head of Operations again
since mid-April this year. It has truly been a thoroughly enjoyable experience for me as I’ve made

new friendships as well as renewing older ones.

My appointment as Chief Pilot was to assist the RAC through a period of transition and I am happy

to report that as that process draws to a close, Dan Smith and Mal McAdam have been appointed as
Chief Pilot/Head of Operations and Alternate (Deputy) CP/HofO respectively. Applications for the
roles were invited by extensive public advertising and these very capable and committed members
of our team were able to rise above a very competitive field to be offered the positions. Well done
to them! I know that as I move on again (back to regional airlines) the RAC flying operation, and
general club management is in excellent hands, which in my opinion could not be bettered.

On a “business note”, there are a couple of recent additions to our operating procedures and some
other general information which I’d like to mention: For anybody who is looking to take advantage
of the opportunity to engage in some aerial whale watching while the seasonal migration is still in
progress, we have provided some information posters around the office area as well as adding a
helpful link to our RAC Facebook page. This information relates to some regulations that apply
(which are fairly well hidden unless you know where to look). The activity of aircraft and vessels
operating in the vicinity of the migrating whales is quite comprehensively monitored by the
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. The second item relates to our gathering of information and
the inclusion of a sartime/flight note requirement for our aeroplanes when hired to do flights away
from the Redcliffe area. Pilots undertaking these private flights will be asked to fill in a form giving
various contact details and other information. The process is not an onerous one, as the information
requested is mostly simply the results of the considerations a pilot normally makes as part of his or
her standard planning process. This will enable us as the operator of the aircraft to keep tabs on the

safe progress of flights involving our members and aeroplanes.

In conclusion, I again say thank you for your help and friendship, to all of the wonderful people I
have encountered here at RAC. I will definitely be making a point of continuing to frequent this
place and flying here at every opportunity available to me, so I look forward to seeing you all at the
club.

Happy flying!
